This winter transfer window proves to be a time of feverish rumour and potential major transfers. Several notable footballers find themselves linked with transfers away from their current clubs. We examine some of the major names who are poised to be on the move this month.

A. Semenyo

Despite Ghana's inability to reach the Africa Cup of Nations, this has left the player available, it appears a significant move is imminent. The 25-year-old possesses a contract featuring a substantial release clause applicable for a two-week period at the start of the month. Recent reports point to Manchester City look to have won the race for his services. Other interested parties like Tottenham and Chelsea are said to have turned their attention to alternative targets, potentially opening the door for clubs such as Liverpool or Manchester United to attempt a late move.

M. Guéhi

This English centre-back has continued to impress for Palace despite a previous move to Liverpool falling through. As his deal set to expire in the summer, this represents the club's final opportunity to secure a fee for their captain. Numerous top sides, including Manchester City and several continental powerhouses including Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, are believed to hold an interest. Yet, a January departure remains unlikely, especially given the manager's dependence on the defender.

Brennan Johnson

This Wales winger has found first-team minutes limited at Tottenham this campaign. Despite finishing as the club's leading goalscorer the previous campaign, Johnson has started only a handful of Premier League games. It is understood the London club is open to a transfer for the right price, thought to be in the region of forty million pounds. The Cherries are currently at the front of the queue, with Aston Villa, Brentford, and Crystal Palace also showing an inquiry.

Rúben Neves

This Portuguese playmaker could be set for a comeback to the English top flight after a period in Saudi Arabia. Now only 28, while his agreement expiring in the summer, he is a potential bargain. Teams such as Liverpool and Manchester United have been connected to the former Wolves man. Additionally, there are suggestions from Spain that he would be prepared to take a pay cut for a move to Real Madrid.

M. ter Stegen

The veteran Germany shot-stopper finds himself as third-choice at Barcelona under the manager Hansi Flick. After fallen out of favour and had surgery, a January departure looks highly probable. Aston Villa were once mentioned as a possible destination, but that move currently seems off. Instead, clubs from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are reportedly showing interest in the 33-year-old.

Ivan Toney

The prolific English centre-forward has kept finding the net regularly in the Middle East. A return to the Premier League might enhance his dwindling hopes of making the England World Cup. However, arranging a transfer presents significant hurdles. His current club are reluctant to sell him, and his alleged huge weekly wages render any move complicated. Tottenham, Manchester United, and Everton are all linked as interested parties.

Conor Gallagher

This energetic English midfielder attracted considerable attention in the summer but stayed at Atlético. With limited starts in La Liga this season, he is eager to secure more minutes ahead of the World Cup. Manchester United are heavily connected, and a return to Crystal Palace, a club he shone on a temporary deal, remains a option, although financial demands might be a problem.

Harvey Elliott

Although excelling and being named the best player award at the U21 Euros in the summer, the young player has struggled for minutes during his loan spell at Aston Villa. The manager has confirmed the temporary transfer will not be made permanent. Because of FIFA regulations about playing for two clubs in a campaign, a return to his parent club prior to next season appears to be the sole available solution.

K. Yildiz

This highly-rated Turkish forward has been in excellent form for the Italian giants this term. As his current deal nearing its end, many Premier League clubs – including Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool – are monitoring the situation. Juventus are eager to secure the 20-year-old to a new long-term agreement but face a race to keep one of Europe's most promising young talents.

K. Smit

The highly-touted Dutch teenage midfielder has drawn comparisons to Kevin De Bruyne for his style of play. After impressing at the Under-19 European Championship, Smit has become a regular in the AZ Alkmaar first team. The teenager is widely tipped to complete a big-money transfer in January. Newcastle United are believed to be frontrunners, but are facing stiff rivalry from Real Madrid for a deal valued at around £22 million.
