The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Unveil a Latest Divinity, Declaring it Their Most Ambitious RPG Yet

The speculation about this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious image of a desert monolith. The secret has been revealed. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer packed with striking imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very unleashing of hell.

A Different Direction

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio stated ahead of time that a direct sequel to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This choice of words implies that the team is likely building a faster-paced experience instead of another turn-based title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is highly rated and it's fair to claim it pioneered the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, player agency, and deep class systems—qualities that recently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.

Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities you can achieve if you're playing as a distinct build with a personal story.

The series is also notoriously permissive, letting players to improvise both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be approached in diverse methods, often in unexpected fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you remembered something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.

The Journey Continues

It is precisely these elements that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can look forward to another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
