Triple MVP Jokic sustains a 'devastating' injury to his knee.

The star center playing basketball
Jokic won the league's Most Valuable Player title in three of the past four years.

Three-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic sustained a "heartbreaking" knee injury while the Denver Nuggets lost 147-123 at the Heat.

The Serbian center sustained the injury late in the first half in an inadvertent coming together with teammate Jones.

The other player came down on the foot of Jokic, and he promptly went down to the floor clutching his leg.

The 30-year-old, who is leading the league this season in rebounds and assists, recorded 21 points and eight assists in the matchup before sustaining the problem.

He is scheduled for an MRI on the following day to evaluate the extent of the injury.

"Right away, Jokic understood something was wrong," commented Nuggets coach Adelman.

"Injuries are part of the game. Any player that is injured, it's tough to see, most notably somebody as important as him. More information will come on Tuesday."

"The team will adjust together. Clearly, right now, I am more concerned about him as a person and the disappointment of going through a situation like that."
